Gunston Hall - River Entrance

Description

Gunston Hall as it would have been seen as visitors and cargo arrived from the private wharf. In the late 18th century, there were no "front" or "back" doors.

George Mason's obscurity is perhaps due to live a private rather than public life, unlike neighbor and friend George Washington. He also suffered from gout, which would partially explain his reluctance to travel. Another reason may be that he is one of three members of the Constitutional Convention who refused to sign the Constitution, citing the fact that there was no Bill of Rights. All of these are undoubtedly factors to his obscurity in history.

No interior pictures were allowed inside the Plantation House.

Nice picture of Gunston Hall. :)

It really caught my eye because a friend of mine works on the archaeological dig there every weekend. The photo itself is really nice but seems a little slanted to the left.
