Me 262 A-1A Schwalbe

Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe, considered by many to be the first effective operational jet fighter ever produced. It was a effective design, and had actually been developed earlier in World War II, but mechanical trouble and interference from the German heirarchy delayed its deployment.

This is the A-1A production model, as seen at the National Air & Space Museum.
