Wild Turkey Hens

What are presumed to be a pair of wild turkey hens as seen at Mount Vernon. We spotted these birds as we approached the mansion during the celebration of Martha Washington's Birthday. My mother thinks they're turkeys, I think they're some sort of grouse. We didn't get a real good look at 'em.
